CONFERENCE REGISTRATION AND FEES

Online registration for the NPCA 2004 conference will be available through August 1st 2004. Online registration is the most efficient way to register. You may also register by fax or mail.

The fees below cover most conference activities - opening ceremony, welcome reception, workshops, business symposium, global education workshop, NPCA meetings, film festival, country of service updates, flag procession, closing ceremony and more - from August 5th to 8th. Country of service dinners and Founder's Day Dinner require separate tickets. There are no partial-day registrations.

Note:  Badges must be worn at all times to enter all conference events.

Conference Refund Policy

All requests for refunds must be submitted in writing to NPCA Conference Refund, c/o The Burnison Group, 2652 N. Wilton, Chicago, IL 60614. Please reference your conference registration number in any written correspondence.

You will receive a refund on your conference fee and other tickets, less a $30.00 processing fee, if your request is postmarked by June 30. You will receive a 50 percent refund if your request is postmarked between July 1 and July 25. (For new members, the membership portion of your fee will not be returned and your NPCA membership and all benefits will remain intact.) After July 26, registration is completely non-refundable.

Hotel Reservations

Palmer House Hilton - Official Conference Hotel
The Palmer House Hilton is the official hotel for the NPCA conference. The hotel is located in the heart of downtown Chicago at 17 E. Monroe on the corner of State Street and Monroe Street.

Room Rate: $135.00 per night - rate applies for 1, 2, 3 or 4 people per room. To make a registration, call: 877-865-5321 (toll free) or 312-726-7500.

Be sure to mention that you are with the NATIONAL PEACE CORPS ASSOCIATION to receive the special conference rate. Cut-off date for this special rate: July 15, 2004 or whenever all of the room block is sold, whichever occurs first.

Alternative Lodging - Youth Hostel

There is a Youth Hostel within a short walking distance of the Palmer House Hotel - the J. Ira & Nikki Harris Family Hostel (www.hichicago.org) at 24 E. Congress Parkway. Beds are $30/night per person and rooms hold 8 people. Airline Reservations - United Airlines Discount

United Air Lines is the "Official Airline" of the NPCA Chicago Conference.

Special Rate Details: 
United offers special rates to attendees of the NPCA Chicago Conference for round trip transportation on scheduled service to Chicago on United, United Express, United code share flights (UA*) operated by US Airways, US Airways Express, Air Canada and Mexicana Airways in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico at fares of either: 

1. Five Percent (5%) discount off any published fare, including First Class, in 
effect when the tickets are purchased, subject to all applicable restrictions and fare rules, or 

2. An additional Five Percent (5%) discount is available when tickets are issued 30 days prior to travel within the contracted travel period.

Local Transportation & Parking

All conference events are within walking distance from the Palmer House Hilton.  The hotel is conveniently located at 17 E. Monroe Street (corner of Monroe & State Street) near public transportation, but parking nearby is not cheap.  Attendees have several options:

Public Transportation:    The Palmer House is VERY accessible by public transportation from all directions - including the airports.  Visit www.transitchicago.com for specifics. Cost for CTA bus or "el" = $1.75.

By CTA "el" train: 

  • Exit the Red Line at Monroe and you're just a few steps away.
  • Exit the Purple, Orange, Green or Brown Lines at Madison and you're a few steps away.
  • Exit the Blue Line at Monroe and you're a block away
  • Airport el train instructions:

    Note:  Transit time is about 50 minutes once you get to the train entrance.  Allow 5-20 minutes to walk to train from baggage claim, depending on your terminal.

    • From Midway Airport - Take Orange Line Train to Madison Note:  Transit time is about 30 minutes.  Train is about a 5 minute walk from most baggage claim areas.

By CTA bus: 

  • Bus routes 2, 10, 29, 145, 146, 147 and 151 stop on State Street within steps of the Palmer House entrance at Monroe.

By METRA train:

  • Take any METRA train to the end of the line in Chicago.
  • Distance to Palmer House from:
    • Ogilvie Transportation Center (aka Northwestern Station) - about 9 blocks
    • Union Station:  about 10 blocks

Parking:

There are many parking garages within a few blocks of the Palmer House, but they ain't cheap.

  • Close, but not cheap:  55 E. Monroe - enter from Monroe or Adams between Michigan & Wabash.  (24 hour rate is approx $30/day).
  • A few blocks away, but cheaper: 
    • Washington-Madison-Wells Self Park at 172 W. Madison. (Weekend rate after 4 p.m. Friday - $12 for each 24 hours.  Evening rate after 4 p.m. weekdays $10.25.  Regular rate apply during weekdays.)
    • Millennium Park Garage at Columbus & Monroe (24 hour rate is approx. $15.75/day).
  • Really cheap, but an "el" ride away:  There are large, public parking garages at the Howard CTA Station (end of the Red Line at the Evanston/Chicago border) and Cumberland CTA (Blue Line stop near O'Hare Airport) and a few other stations.  These lots are designed for commuters, but are well monitored all day and night.  Cost = $1.75 per day.  "El" ride from parking to the Palmer House is about 30-40 minutes.  Visit www.transitchicago.com for specifics.
