MIORITZA
About the Performance Group
MIORITZA is the Folk Group of the Romanian Orthodox Church in
Chicago.
It was first founded in 1947. The present instructor has been
with the group since 1998. "Mioritza" group is formed
by 10 to 12 couples between 16 and 35 years old. Some members
immigrated from Romania, some others were born in the USA and
wanted to help preserve the tradition.

Mioritza
has participated in several international festivals throughout
the Chicagoland area. Mioritza members have been invited
to attend events among East-European, Serbian and Polish communities.
One of the pictures reveals the performance at the "Winter
Wonder Stage" in Chicago.

The variety
of the dances that the group performs covers most of the Transylvanian
regionin the middle of the country and East of Romania.
